• Question: what is the most interesting thing you've worked on?

      I’d say it has to the project I was involved in for developing better materials for a new rocket thruster intended for future Mars mission for the European Space Agency. It allowed me to use my previous knowledge about propulsion systems and look at the challenges involved and how we could overcome them. Unfortunately we didn’t get as far as we’d have liked because one of the pieces of equipment needed for the process didn’t work as well as it should have, but we learnt a lot and know how we can improve it in the future. I’m lucky in that my job allows me to work on lots of interesting things, not all space related, and get to be involved in all stages from putting forward the idea, designing equipment and experiments, building and running them, and then analysing the results. I can only hope that I continue to work on lots more interesting projects in the future! What’s the most interesting thing you’ve worked on/school project you’ve done?

      I’m actually working now with a charity that plants trees. I use satellite images to analyse to tell the charity where would be the best place to plant new trees.
      For example looking ad old satellite images, I can say there used to be houses there and they were demolished. This means that probably in the soil there is lots of bricks, stones and other “leftovers” from demolishing job. This would effectively mean that digging a hole would be difficult and that the tree would potentially not have enough nutrition to flourish.
      I can as well analyse the satellite data to say where there is a lack of green spaces and the local society would benefit with having some greenness.
